MY THOUGHTS
Setting: Canadian wilderness, 1900's
Tragedy isn't a stranger to Jo Wilson. She lives in Fraser Springs and her husband had a bathhouse. Now that he is gone, Jo is trying to keep it going but is getting opposition from the ladies of society. But much to Jo's surprise, a strange, who is quite good looking may be more important that the society ladies of the town. This stranger is a writer and had heard of the Wilson's Bathhouse, in the frontier of Canada. Rumors get spread and they go like wildfire, ending up in a little Canadian town where this author comes from. Owen Sterling is hoping to get a juicy story to make his career get a boost. But when he arrives, he discovers there isn't all the scandal he had hoped for. The author gives us a strong woman in Jo who isn't going to let the society ladies change her mind about keeping the bathhouse open. I like strong characters that don't bend with the least bit of opposition. We get a town that has their tunnel vision on how things should be and what shouldn't be. They don't want Mrs. Wilson to succeed. What will Owen do when he discovers there is very little scandal in this story? Will he join forces with Jo to stand up against the town's finest? Will there be a possible romance between the two? The author gives the reader a fast paced story with characters that show their true colors. The scandalous part of Mrs. Wilson, was it just in the minds of the townspeople or was she really scandalous? You decide. Jo was a character that didn't throw up her hands and say, woe is me. She faced the troubles in her life, used what she had and made the best of it. Sometimes in doing so, she made things better for others too. She stood her ground and fought for what she felt was right. You had to love her, strong, brave, stubborn, beautiful and if there was a scandalous nature to her, then all the better. But as I said, you will have to decide if the author gave the reader a scandalous woman or a scandalous woman in the eyes of others?
I received a copy of this book from Night Owl Reviews and the author and voluntarily decided to review it.
I would give this book 5 STARS.
