Inside the Book

Title: The Can’t-idates: Running For President When Nobody Knows Your Name
Author: Craig Tomashoff
Publisher: Bobtimystic Books
Pages: 302
Genre: Nonfiction
I’m not a political person by nature. Most of the time, it seems the political world plays out more like a lame ‘70s sitcom with all its predictable characters and routine storylines. However, last spring, I got tired of hearing friends and family complain about the lack of exciting, innovative candidates for president. Everyone seemed ready to vote for “None Of the Above.” So, I decided to take a 10,000-mile road trip across America in May 2015 to meet several of the more than 1600 “real people” who are legit candidates for the presidency. Including a couple in New England.
The Can’t-idates is about dreamers — not all of whom are tin-foil hat crazy — who just want to fill a hole in their lives by running for president. And as I drove to meet them all, I realized a lot about not just my life but also about the country. If we could all take time to believe in what our parents always told us — “Someday you can grow up to be president” — maybe we wouldn’t be in the shape we’re in.

MY THOUGHTS

Is running for the Commander in Chief just for those rich politicians that have a well known name, money and a political background?  Well, in a way it is.  Those people seem to have a much better chance at winning than the ordinary person.  Few know, but there are regular folks out there from all walks of life, who have that dream, who want change and want to bring about that change.  But can it be done? This book takes a look at 15 of the unknown candidates who started out running for this prestige office.  They wanted to do this for various reasons, mostly for change. Maybe change for themselves, maybe change for others including our country.  Some of the people had some far out reasons for running, others some very sincere reasons.  Everybody wants to believe that the American dream is within their reach but how many actually reach that dream?  The author adds humor and so much of himself and what he went through and felt during writing this book.  It's a down to earth look at politics from the little guy's eyes.
Politics can and is, at times, a nasty dirty, mud slinging fight.  Words are said, lies are told, people hurt all in the name of being in control of the United States of America.
SO if you're interested in the little guy and some of their stories on their search for the dream of being Commander in Chief, than pick up this book and take some of the edge off of the nasty politics.  It's written with honesty, humor and some interesting facts.  You will smile and you'll wonder, I want change, could I run for this office?  Who knows, someday you may.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, Craig Thomashoff and PUYB in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.  No other compensation took place.

I would give this book 5 STARS.
