BOOK DETAILS
(from Amazon)
Ivy Darling can’t have children of her own, and her husband Nick’s
resentment is forcing them apart. And while Ivy has the support and love
of her large, close-knit family, Nick’s family has never welcomed her
into the fold.
When the three children next door are abandoned by their mother, Ivy and Nick take them in for the night. One night becomes several, and suddenly Ivy and Nick find themselves foster parents to the only African-American kids in the town of Copper Cove, Maine. As Ivy grows more attached to the children, Nick refuses to accept their eclectic household as a permanent family. Just as Ivy begins to question whether or not she wants to save her emotionally barren marriage, Nick begins to discover how much Ivy and the children mean to him. But is his change of heart too little, too late?

AUTHOR
Carre Armstrong Gardner was raised in the Adironback Mountains of New York - the most beautiful of all possible settings - where she spent countless hours rambling through woods and beside streams, making up stories, usually with herself as the heroine. In fact, it wasn't until well into adulthood that she realized not everyone in the world sat at traffic lights or passed the time in the doctors' waiting rooms creating plots and characters in their heads. It was that realization that first gave her permission to think of herself as a writer.
From 2007-2010, Carre lived and worked in Russia with her husband and children. Now she lives in Portland, Maine, where she works as a nurse at a local hospital. She has three teenagers and two rescue dogs, which is far too many. (Dogs, not teenagers.)
REVIEW
This is a wonderful book about the Darling Family. First we have Leander and Jane and their five grown children: David, Sephy, Amy and twins, Laura and Ivy. The main characters in this book one is Nick and Ivy, married 6 years and childless. Ivy can't have any children due to something that happened when she was younger. Nick knew about this before they got married but he has not forgotten and is holding it over Ivy's head. This has taken a toll on their marriage.
Next door is an abandoned house and one day a family of a mother and three children move in. Soon Ivy discovers that the mother has left the three children locked out of their house and she doesn't return.
What was supposed to be a few nights, Nick and Ivy ended up taking the kids in for more than that. All the time, the authorities are searching for the mother. Will she be found? Will she take her children back? Ivy treats the kids like her own, although she can't have any. There is DeShaun, 14 who has been momma and daddy to little sister Jada, 9 and little brother, Hammer, 6.
Nick feels it's his obligation as a Christian to take care of these children but he doesn't feel anything for them. No Love. Things aren't going so well though, for Nick and Ivy. Will Ivy go somewhere else to find the love she needs or will Nick leave? During all this time, the kids are growing and flourishing. All three are quite talented in their own way. Will Nick see that he is losing Ivy? Will he realize the kids mean more to him than he thought?
The author wrote in some very hard subjects and real life problems. You can't help but take the Darling family into your heart. It's as though you are living in the Darling household and going through their daily lives.
Hoping to read more Darling Family novels.
I received this book from Tyndale Rewards and the author in exchange for my unbiased view. No other compensation took place.
