Samantha Brinkman, an ambitious, hard-charging Los Angeles criminal defense attorney, is struggling to make a name for herself and to drag her fledgling practice into the big leagues. Sam lands a high-profile double-murder case in which one of the victims is a beloved TV star—and the defendant is a decorated veteran LAPD detective. It promises to be exactly the kind of media sensation that would establish her as a heavy hitter in the world of criminal law. Though Sam has doubts about his innocence, she and her two associates (her closest childhood friend and a brilliant ex-con) take the case. Notorious for living by her own rules—and fearlessly breaking everyone else’s—Samantha pulls out all the stops in her quest to uncover evidence that will clear the detective. But when a shocking secret at the core of the case shatters her personal world, Sam realizes that not only has her client been playing her, he might be one of the most dangerous sociopaths she’s ever encountered.

California native Marcia Clark is the author of Guilt by Association, Guilt by Degrees, Killer Ambition, and The Competition, all part of the Rachel Knight series. A practicing criminal lawyer since 1979, she joined the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office in 1981, where she served as prosecutor for the trials of Robert Bardo, convicted of killing actress Rebecca Schaeffer, and, most notably, O. J. Simpson. The bestselling Without a Doubt, which she cowrote, chronicles her work on the Simpson trial. Clark has been a frequent commentator on a variety of shows and networks, including Today, Good Morning America, The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, and MSNBC, as well as a legal correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.

Defense attorney, Samantha Brinkman is a hard working Los Angeles criminal defense attorney.  She's working hard and struggling to get her practice up in the higher rank of actual paying clients. Then her chance comes, or so she thinks.   A TV star and her room mate are murdered.  What blows everybody away is the defendant is a decorated veteran LAPD cop.    If she could handle this case, she would make a name for herself.   Sam has two associates. One is a child hood friend and the other is an intelligent ex-con.  Quite a team.

Sam isn't sure about the defendent.  She catches him in several lies and has her doubts.  Sam does as Sam does.  She lives by her own rules, not anyone elses.   She breaks everyone's rules and goes by hers.   She and her associates are working long days and nights to find evidence that her detective is innocent.  The bad thing is, more and more events keep adding to the mystery of who actually committed this crime.  Who murdered the two girls?  On top of all Sam is dealing with, a long kept private secret comes to life and it changes her personal life forever.   What is that secret?  Does it have anything to do with the defendant.?

This book was well written, very realistic and the reader felt they were there, following Sam and her associates as they go through battle to vindicate the defendant.  Pick up a copy and you'll be glued to the book.  Page after page of twists and turns that keep you guessing.  Once you think you have it solved, the author throws in a STOP sign and you realize you're wrong.  A suspenseful page turner that will have you on the edge of your chair.

I received a complimentary copy of BLOOD DEFENSE from the author, Marcia Clark and NightOwl Reviews for my unbiased review.  No other compensation took place

I would give this book 5 STARS.
