OVERVIEW
(from Litfuse)
After her father’s death, Caroline Taylor has grown confident running the Windmill Point Lighthouse. But in 1865 Michigan, women aren’t supposed to have such roles, so it’s only a matter of time before the lighthouse inspector appoints a new keeper–even though Caroline has nowhere else to go and no other job available to her.
Ryan Chambers is a Civil War veteran still haunted by the horrors of battle. He’s secured the position of lighthouse keeper mostly for the isolation–the chance to hide from his past is appealing. He’s not expecting the current keeper to be a feisty and beautiful woman who’s angry with him for taking her job and for his inability to properly run the light. When his failings endanger others, he and Caroline realize he’s in no shape to run the lighthouse, but he’s unwilling to let anyone close enough to help. Caroline feels drawn to this wounded soul, but with both of them relying on that single position, can they look past their loss to a future filled with hope…and possibly love?

REVIEW
SETTING: 1865 Windmill Point, Michigan
Is forgiveness possible? When Caroline Taylor's father died, she ran the Windmill Point Lighthouse and began to get more self confidence as time went by. The problem being, in that era, 1865 Michigan, women weren't supposed to run any companies. They were supposed to stay home and raise the family, be a good wife and mother.
That being, it wasn't long before the inspector put in a new keeper. Caroline was left out in the cold, nowhere to go and no other job that was available for a woman in that time period.
The new lighthouse keeper, Ryan Chambers, a Civil War veteran took the position mainly to be isolated, to hide from his haunting past. He was in for a surprise. He wasn't expecting the current lighthouse keeper to be a head strong, determined and beautiful woman. She is really angry with Ryan for taking her job and on top of that he doesn't know how to run the lighthouse. He doesn't want help. He doesn't want anyone to be close to him. Two people both needing the job, a single position, Caroline feels something towards this man who has so isolated himself. Is it possible to look past the bad times and look to a future of hope...and possibly a romance? The book was well written with two totally different characters. One strong and outgoing and one who isolates himself. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes the era when women were held back and not allowed to take charge. A book of isolation that may become romance. Try it!
I received a complimentary copy of HEARTS MADE WHOLE from the author, Jody Hedlund and Litfuse Publicity for my view of the book.
I would give this book 5 STARS.
