THE AUTHOR
Sally Gould loved books from a young age but never considered writing them. While she was busy getting up to the mischief that teenagers get up to, she forgot about books all together. Then total insanity took hold and she became a corporate lawyer. Fortunately, she had two sons and they inspired her to write stories for children. Of course, her oldest son is responsible, logical, studious, considerate, grateful and even makes his bed. The youngest one is only interested in having fun and lots of it. And, except for his teachers, he makes everyone laugh. Their antics have inspired many of Sally's stories. Sally lives in Melbourne, Australia with her family and two dogs, Pebbles, who is sensible and Jade who just wants to have fun.
REVIEW
This was a well written book for Middle Grader's, not that young at hearter's can't enjoy it. The main character Adam, is a gifted teenager. Adam can see ghosts, just like in ODD THOMAS. The difference being is that Adam can also talk to them. When Adam and his family receive a surprise inheritance, they move into the house of their dreams.
Adam has a problem with this: the house already has a tenant, a morose ghost named Edward. He wants the family out of the house and Adam knows that's not
going to happen.
Edward is a special ghost to the Earthbound Spirits so in trying to get him to change his mind, it ends up in threats and follow up action. Near the end of the book was a very well done conflict scene.
The book is for middle graders but young at hearters will love it too. It is easy to read, well written and with an appropriate pace. Ms. Gould is Australian so there are some minor Aussie-isms which are a little strange to an American. I found not one typo or vocabulary error. The reader will find this a fun story that you will want to read again. Sally Gould is definitely a talented writer for middle schoolers.
