The First Christmas, by Janice Green and illustrated by Violet Vandor, tells the account of the birth of Jesus Christ. Adults and children alike will enjoy snuggling up to share these thirteen colorful scenes and the engaging discussion questions as this timeless story unfolds. Even older readers may be surprised to learn something new as they read again of the Messiah's birth.

 AUTHOR
Janice D. Green retired as an elementary librarian to write books. She is author, illustrator, and publisher of The Creation, a Bible storybook for children.  The colorful illustrations are hand appliqued fabric pictures that have been put together to make a Bible quilt. Her passion is to write about the Bible in a way that encourages people to want to read it for themselves.

ILLUSTRATOR
Violet Vandor was born in Deva, Romania.  She studied mechanical drawing in the town of Cluj and web design at the Helvetian Multimedia Institute from Deva.  Violet has had more than 40 books published in Romania, Hungary, and thee USA.  In 1991 the "Poverello" publishing house from Miskolc, Hungary published her first coloring book: Christmas Coloring Book.  In 1998 Agape Publishing from Szeged, Hungary, published her Biblical Coloring Book.  These books were published only in Hungarian and many are now out of print.

REVIEW
This is a lovely children's book that can help families with little ones to get together and read a holiday book that has so many wonderful colorful illustrations and the language is at a pace that fits small children.
The main part of the story is about Jesus' birth, waiting for the Messiah, the shepherds, Joseph's problems and of course, the wise men.  This little book gives children something very important to think about.  The pictures keep them from becoming bored.  The story, wording and illustrations keep the little one's attention span.  We all know little one's attention span is short lived.
The author added some questions that families can talk about together.
The author also added links for instructions and drawings as well as printed fabric to make a tablecloth, table runner, place mats, Christmas tree skirt, Quilt top and a wall hanging (2 sizes)
I found this book to be a lovely holiday book for families, teachers, librarians and just anyone who wants a little time in life to share their spirit during the holiday season.  A time to spend quietly and happily with each other.

I was given a complimentary copy of THE FIRST CHRISTMAS from the author, JANICE D. Green and BOOKCRASH for my view of the book.  No other compensation took place.

I would give this book 5 STARS.
