MANY SPARROWS

MANY SPARROWS
by
Lori Benton

Travel back in time to the Ohio-Kentucky frontier in 1774 as it pulses with rising tension and brutal conflicts and meet Clare, who is determined to emerge from the wilderness with her children, in Lori Benton’s new book, Many Sparrows. Clare will face the greatest fight of her life, as she struggles to reclaim her son from the Shawnee Indians now holding him captive. But with the battle lines sharply drawn, her son’s life might not be the only one at stake. Can a stranger convince Clare that recovering her son will require the very thing her anguished heart is unwilling to do—be still, wait and let God fight this battle for them?

Either she and her children would emerge from that wilderness together,
or none of them would........

“Don't go judging the Almighty by (our) own understanding. We're rarely given eyes to see the whole of what He's doing in our lives . . . . . That's why we are called to walk by faith, not by sight".”

ABOUT THE BOOK
Many Sparrows (WaterBrook, August 2017)

In 1774, the Ohio-Kentucky frontier pulses with rising tension and brutal conflicts as colonists push westward and encroach upon Native American territories. The young Inglesby family is making the perilous journey west when an accident sends Philip back to Redstone Fort for help, forcing him to leave his pregnant wife, Clare, and their four year old son, Jacob on a remote mountain trail.
When Philip does not return and Jacob disappears from the wagon under the cover of darkness, Clare finds herself utterly alone, in labor, and wondering how she can recover her son... especially when her second child is moments away from being born.
Clare will face the greatest fight of her life as she struggles to reclaim her son from the Shawnee Indians now holding him captive. But with the battle lines sharply drawn, Jacob's life might not be the only one at stake.  When frontiersman Jeremiah Ring comes to her aid, can the stranger convince Clare that recovering her son will require the very thing her anguished heart is unwilling to do--be still, wait, and let Good fight this battle for them?

THE AUTHOR
Lori BentonLori Benton was born and raised east of the Appalachian Mountains, surrounded by early American and family history going back to the 1600s. Her novels transport readers to the 18th century, where she brings to life the Colonial and early Federal periods of American history, creating a melting pot of characters drawn from both sides of a turbulent and shifting frontier, brought together in the bonds of God's transforming grace.
When she isn’t writing, reading, or researching 18th century history, Lori enjoys exploring the mountains with her husband.

MY VIEW
In 1774 as the pioneers decide to go West in search of a better life, they have many struggles, decisions and hardships to face.   Everyday survival as they cross Indian territories, is far from easy. Oftentimes, all they had was each other and their faith in God. As the young Inglesby family, Philip, Clare and their young four year old son, Jacob go on this dangerous journey, an accident happens.  This forces Philip to go back to Fort Redstone.  Clare is about to give birth to their second child but Philip can't take them with him.  Time is important, so Clare, waiting for her child to be born and Jacob are left on the mountain until Philip returns.   But during the night, Jacob disappears, taken by the Shawnee Indians.  With everything happening, Clare goes into labor, fighting to bring her unborn child into life.  All the while she is thinking how she will get her son back from the Indians.  She knows that Philip is not returning. She must rely on her faith in God and let God lead her.  Clare has to hold on to her faith, her hope and not give in to her fears.

As she is deep in Shawnee country, Jeremiah Ring, an adopted Shawnee, comes into her life and promises to help her get Jacob back. He helps deliver her child.  Now it's time to search for Jacob and hope he is still alive.  During their search, they discover Jeremiah's sister and she has Jacob.  He is now known as Many Sparrows.  But will Jeremiah be able to help Clare now that his sister is in the picture?  Jacob now belongs to two women.  Who will Jeremiah side with?

As you read, you wonder how people back then survived. They faced such struggles, fear, devastation and so much unknown. The author gives us a woman who is strong to the core. Sure she has fears, fear of being alone, getting her son back, but she also has her faith in God.   Your heart is torn.  You feel so strongly for Clare.  Her husband now gone, her son taken captive, a new baby being born in the wilderness being delivered by a stranger.  A stranger who has been adopted by the Shawnee.  The author gives us a historical read that not only tears at your heart but warms your heart also.   Written with such feeling and leaves you wanting more.  It will inspire you. It will bring tears.  It will make you feel like you are on that wilderness mountain top, alone, facing the unknown.

I received a copy of this book from the author and Litfuse Group and voluntarily decided to review it.

I would give this book 5  STARS.
