Jesse Lyman Hurlbut (1843–1930) was an American Methodist Episcopal clergyman. He was born in New York City, graduated at Wesleyan University in 1864, and held pastorates at Newark, Montclair, Paterson, Plainfield, Hoboken, Morristown, Orange, and Bloomfield, New Jersey After 1879 he was connected with the Sunday-school and tract work of his denomination. He was secretary of the Epworth League in 1889–1892 and for some time was associated with J. H. Vincent in the direction of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle. From 1909 until his retirement in 1914 he was district superintendent of the Newark District.

MY THOUGHTS
What I liked about this Bible story book is that the print was larger than others I have seen.  That makes it easier for those little ones to read or for parents and grandparents to read to them.   I also liked the colorful large illustrations that went with each story.  These lovely illustrations help the little ones understand the story. The stories are from both the Old Testament and the New Testament so the children get a wide variety of Bible stories.  Children need a good foundation to start their lives and Bible stories can start to root their faith in God.   I liked that there is a story for each day.  It makes it so you don't have to stop reading a story and continue the next evening.  Little ones have a short attention span and with the stories being able to be read one a night, you have a story for each day of the year.  It doesn't have to be at bedtime. It could be anytime.  Children love to learn new things.  They love being read to to and reading themselves.   What also is nice is that you don't have to be a young child, you can be young at heart. It's for children and adults alike. A fun, interesting way to learn about the Bible.  This is the perfect time of year to get this book for anyone as a Christmas gift or for any occasion.  It can be put by the bedside and at sleepy time, a lovely story to fall asleep to.
I would recommend this book to anyone. A great way to start that faith and learn about the Bible.
