BLURB:
Heroes come in all shapes.

The war for Andor has lasted a century. Humans and their allies, the Angeli, fight demons from another plane who need a warmer planet to hatch and raise their young. Trebridge becomes Ground zero when Abraxas, a minion of the demon Prince Vetis, opens a secret portal into the city. The demons goal is to build an army to subjugate the city before the humans realize they are under attack.

Standing in the demons' way are two desperate groups: the humans of Andor and their Angeli allies who command gargoyle warriors.

Leading the four gargoyles guarding Trebridge is Gillen, a proven war hero who uses magic to fight demons. But Gillen is an outcast, mocked for his tuft of hair that normal gargoyles lack. It's up to him to prove once and for all that he's worthy of his command, in spite of dissention in his ranks. When Gillen asks the Angeli Commanders for reinforcements to fight the growing demon menace in Trebridge, headquarters send four human teens from the projects.

The leader of the humans is Britt, a 14-year-old half-Hispanic girl who is one of the four magic-possessing Chosen. But Britt was never trained in the art of magic, and like most girls her age, spends her days preoccupied with school and romance. Like Gillen, she must rise above her station in life-if she is to save the ones she loves.

But Gillen and Britt are facing formidable demon foes, Abraxas: a chicken-headed demon who possesses several humans as part of his plan to build the demons' base in Tredbridge and power-hungry Prince Vetis who is his commander. Neither will let the deaths of expendable humans get in their way of the conquest.

In There Be Demons, author M.K. Theodoratus spins a brilliant tale of good versus evil. In this thrilling Young Adult fantasy novel, unlikely heroes rise to challenge a relentless enemy. Join them as they risk everything to save their city.

M.K. Theodoratus has been intrigued by fantasy since she discovered the Oz books. She has traveled through many fantasy worlds since then. When she's not reading about other writer's worlds, she's creating her own -- mostly that of the Far Isle Half-Elven where she explores the social and political influences of population genetics in a hybrid elf/human poplustion.

A sixth grade English assignment introduced her to story writing. The teacher asked for a short story. She got an incomplete, 25-page Nancy Drew pastiche which turned into a novel the next summer. Theodoratus has been addicted to writing stories ever after.

MY THOUGHTS:

One size does not fit all when it comes to heroes or demons.  But one thing rings true, it's good against bad.
Demons are needing a place that is warm and where they are isn't warm enough to keep their young alive.  So they are planning and plotting to attack the city of Trebridge, where it is warmer. But will the Angeli and the humans be able to fight the demons and win?    IT may all depend if they find out the attack is being planned.  Guarding the city are four gargoyles.  Gillen, a hero who has magic capabilities can help win this war.  But will leading the Gargoyles be successful to take down the demons?  Especially since Gillen doesn't have the respect needed. He is different, right up to his hair.   He doesn't look like a normal Gargoyle. He has to prove himself as a leader.  He knows he needs help so he requests re-enforcements from the Angeli.   They send, not more Gargoyles, but, HUMANS, 4 teenagers.  The leader is a 14 year old girl, Britt, who also has the power of magic.  She just wants to be a girl and do girl things that most teenagers do, like being in love.  She is faced with learning to use her power and protecting those she loves or doing the things teen age girls do.  A difficult choice for a 14 year old teen.

Heroes come in unlikely forms, even outcasts and teenage girls.   But will Britt  and Gillen be able to lead the fight against the demons and win?   This is a fun and interesting fantasy tale. The author takes the unthinkable and unlikely characters and gives you the adventure that takes them to being heroes.   I'm not usually a fan of the paranormal, fantasy genre but this was an adventure, a journey into the fantasy world of good vs. evil and who doesn't want to go against evil and put it or them in their place?  Of course, the evil would want it the other way. They would want the evil to win.  Whose side will you be on after you begin reading this book?

I received a  copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review it.

I would give this book 4 STARS.
