A RASH OF ELABORATE CAT BURGLARIES

IN MANHATTAN HAS THE CITY PANICKED!

Inside the Book:

Title: Never Go Alone
Author: Denison Hatch
Publisher: Lookout Press
Pages: 300
Genre: Thriller/Mystery/Police Procedural
A rash of elaborate cat burglaries of luxury buildings in Manhattan has the police and mayor panicked. When a group of social media obsessed millennials—a loosely organized crew that call themselves “urban explorers”—are suspected in the heists, NYPD detective Jake Rivett is assigned the case.
Already undercover with one foot on each side of the blue line, Rivett is ordered to infiltrate the group and discern responsibility. Battling against both his own personal demons and misgivings regarding his superiors, Rivett dives deep into the urban exploration scene in pursuit of the truth. But what, and who, he finds—deep in the sewers, up in the cranes above under-construction skyscrapers, and everywhere else in New York—will change not only Jake, but the city itself.

MY THOUGHTS
I didn't read Mr. Hatch's first book, 'Flash Crash' but have placed it on my TBR list.  Jake Rivett, detective  is far from your average cop.  He mostly worked undercover.   Jake isn't a real social person. He prefers to be a loner and he definitely likes doing things his way.   He  is definitely on the side of justice and likes to do things by the law. On a different note, being undercover suits him fine,  He fits into that world and no one would ever know.  He isn't your ordinary detective. He's in a league all his own.    He fit into the undercover world to a "T" with his long hair and the lifestyle he led.    He was in a heavy metal band which helped to keep up his pretense of being an undercover cop.    He had to keep the image and that he did.
He's been assigned a case that will probably his hardest yet.    Properties owned by Arthur Metropolis, one of Seattle's richest men, has been broken into.    This became a high priority case since Arthur was friends with the mayor.
Jake has a fear, believe it or not and that fear is heights.  That's going to make this case really tough.  How was he going to go undercover and fit in with a bunch of climbers.?  But Jake knows he has to do this.  One of the climbers, Mona, takes a liking to Jake and takes him under her wing.
The author gives you characters that come to life on the page in front of you.  The plot gives you a little variety, from the deep dark alleys to the cities largest skyscrapers.  The pace keeps you going but not so fast that you get lost.
If you love detective, undercover work, suspense, then go undercover with Jake Rivett and take on New York.  Jake will have your back for sure, but hold on tight, because it will be a roller coaster ride you won't be able to get off of.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and PUYB Virtual Book Tours and voluntarily decided to review it.
I would give this book 5  STARS.
