A DOG NAMED CAT
by
Anne Toole
A little dog named Cat
Wondered how he got a name like that!
From other animals, he had found
That cats weren't very nice to be around.
Another name he wished he had,
Because being named Cat made him mad!
What did the little dog do
To change his name to something new?

MY THOUGHTS
Do you like your name? Most of us just accept what our parents named us and go on, whether we like it or not. What if you were named something really outlandish, something you really disliked? How would you go about changing it?
The author gives us a dog, so cute and lovable. This little cutey was taken in by a nice family and was named by their baby. What did the baby call this little dog? Of all things, CAT!
CAT
just accepted being called that. He didn't know it was strange being
called CAT when he was a DOG. Of all things, a little mouse, let CAT
know he wasn't a CAT, he was a DOG. This got CAT to thinking. Why was
he called CAT? Everybody that CAT came in contact with laughed and
told him he wasn't a CAT. What was wrong with him?
CAT
didn't know what to do. He was so sad. He didn't like when he finally
saw what a CAT was. So, in the only way CAT knew, he started barking
and his family couldn't understand. What is CAT going to do? Will his
name somehow get changed perhaps to DOG? Or will the little boy in the
family figure out that CAT needed to be called something different?
This little book is written in verse and has such wonderful colorful pictures to go with it. It is a learning book that is presented in a fun way. Children learn about doggies and cats and the other animals around them. Children and adults alike will love the story, pictures. Parents, grand parents, teachers will love the way the children's faces light up with the story of a dog named CAT!
