INTRO'
After losing her son in an elementary school shooting that devastates the tight-knit community of Stillwater Bay, Jennifer Crowne finds herself unable to settle back into her role of perfect stay-at-home mom and committee organizer. Meanwhile, her best friend, Mayor Charlotte Stone, struggles to keep the town together, and Charlotte’s husband, the school principal, may not be the hero everyone thinks him to be.
As they try to heal from this irrevocable trauma, Jenn and Charlotte find themselves at a crossroads—within the town and within their friendship. REVIEW
I don't normally like books about school shootings. They're just too sad for me. I have to say it was well written. The characterizations were well done. The setting was quite realistic. The author described each character in each chapter. I almost stopped reading. Right now in my life, all this sadness of school shootings is almost too much.. I found that I not only felt for the parents of the children who were killed, the mother of the boy who did the shooting, the children and the community. You can't; blame the mother of the shooter. My heart went out to her. I kept trying to understand who was really to blame? It is so sad that such young children with their whole lives ahead of them to be shot down for, WHY? I'm not sure. Then you have a few of the teachers who were shot and killed. They did teaching our children about the world and about people. Some died while trying to save a student. They were heroes. I found the main story to be about a town and families trying to keep their lives together. Will some go their own ways or will some struggle to keep it together? The people who have faith and hope may have a chance to keep their lives together. The story can't help but touch your heart and soul. It's just not for me. I guess at this point in my life there is too much sadness already.
I was given a complimentary copy of STILLWATER RISING from the author, Steena Holmes for my view of the book. No other compensation took place.
I would give this book 4 STARS.
