 SUMMARY
(from Amazon)
Two worlds

Neither can exist without the other

And one guardian to ensure their survival

But a family with a score to settle

Forces one boy, into a dangerous adventure

Jake Summers is an ordinary boy with an ordinary family- so he thinks. He has just spent another summer holidays building dens in the woods with his best friend Paul. But when someone special unexpectedly dies, Jake is determined to find out the truth, unaware that it will change his life forever.

He discovers a key to Grandpa’s forbidden room, and is plunged into a long-forgotten magical world, together with class mate Arianna Brown and a strange creature called Noggin. Stormy seas, underground carts pulled by Golden Eagles and a dragon all stand in his way. He must race against time to fulfil an ancient magical prophecy and save the world.

Rachel Tetley lives with her five children on the top of a wooded Devon hill overlooking the sea. When she is not writing, she is riding her horse Smudge, playing her piano or experimenting to invent the worlds best recipe for Chocolate Brownies. She loves to do anything as long as it's exciting and has to be doing something all of the time. In fact the idea for her first book Guardian of the Underworld, was created whilst she was sleeping!

REVIEW
Cerberus is pursuing an old man who Cerberus ends up killing.  When he leaves he has a vial of blood from the old man with him.
Back to the other characters, Jake Summers,a normal eleven year old boy,  Jake's mom, dad and his dog, Bruce.  Jake's teacher has asked the class to do an essay on what took place during their Holiday. Jake goes to the woods, which is a dark and light place that Jake feels may have been where he had a vision.  A vision of Cerberus.   Jake finds out that a classmate Arianna had a strange adventure in these same woods.
Jake and Arianna decide to return to the woods.  When they do they find an odd pool.  Could this be a Gateway to the Underworld?  The author puts in such detailed descriptions of the scenes and twists the characters and the plot together. The author also added such wonderful illustrations to go with the story. What is the underworld?  What happens to Jake and Arianna when they find the Gate?  The story is a well written, and you'll find yourself turning the pages very fast.  Is the Gate the gate to the underworld?   Who is the guardian of the underworld? Jake is racing against time against five challenges to save the world.  This is a magical prophecy that has to be fulfilled.   I found this book to be an imaginative adventure story for children. Children love anything that is magical. It allows children to use their imaginations.  The author also adds some lessons for the reader to learn.  The book is not just for fun but a learning experience also.  A book that allows a child to enjoy reading a book while learning a couple of lessons shows children that learning valuable and important lessons doesn't have to be boring.

I was given a complimentary copy of GUARDIAN OF THE UNDERWORLD from the author and illustrator, Rachel Tetley for my view of the book.  No other compensation took place.

I would give this book 4 STARS.
