Fairbourne Quartet
Book 4

(from Amazon)
From New York Times bestselling author Madeline Hunter comes this seductive tale of a headstrong young lady, a scandalous manuscript, and the iron-willed duke determined to save her from her ruin. For fans of Mary Balogh, Eloisa James, and Julia Quinn.
When Lady Lydia Alfreton is blackmailed over the shocking contents of a manuscript she once wrote, she must go to the most desperate of measures to raise the money to buy back the ill-considered prose: agreeing to an old wager posed by the arrogant, dangerous Duke of Penthurst. At least Penthurst is a man she wouldn’t mind fleecing—and she’s confident she’ll win.
Penthurst long ago concluded Lydia was a woman in search of ruinous adventure, but even he is surprised when she arrives at his house ready to bet her innocence against his ten thousand pounds—a wager he only proposed to warn her off gambling.
When she loses to a simple draw of the cards, Lydia is shocked. Now, her problems are twofold: a blackmailer determined to see her pay and a duke determined to tame her rebellious ways. One misstep and Lydia could find herself ruined—or bound to the seductive man who would make her his duchess.

AUTHOR
I am a published novelist, a mother and wife, an art historian and a teacher. My first historical romance was published in 2000 and my bibliography shows the list of books since then. My books have been on the bestseller lists of the New York Times, USAToday, and Publishers Weekly (where I have also had two starred reviews.) I have won the RITA award twice and been a finalist seven times. My novels combine strong romances between layered and complex characters with plots that include mysteries or intrigues.
REVIEW
This is Number 4 in the "Fairbourne Quartet" series. Although it is part of a series, it can be a stand alone. The previous books were THE CONQUEST of LADY CASSANDRA, THE SURRENDER OF MISS FAIRBOURNE, and THE COUNTERFEIT MISTRESS.
Once again, the author has written a wonderful, seductive story of a stubborn Lady Lydia Alfreton and a strong willed Duke of Penthurst. Lady Lydia has been blackmailed and has to keep the story she wrote from being seen. She takes the Duke up on an old bet. Playing cards, if he wins she gives up her innocence, if he wins she gets ten thousand pounds. Will Lady Lydia win or will the Duke? Maybe there are one or two little secrets?, a little gambling, a little blackmail and of course Lady Lydia who is strong willed as much as the Duke who is bound and determined to make this lady his, with a little toning down. Will Lady Lydia let the Duke have his way? Such a tale of seduction, romance and innocence. You won't want to miss reading this book. It's scandalous and yet has a soft approach to it. The book was written according to the time. It was repetitive which makes the reader bored real quick. Well, I'll just say you have to pick up this wonderful book and get a taste of the seduction, the innocence and the romance. Just wonderful.
I am giving this review from a complimentary copy. No other compensation took place.
I would give this book 4 STARS.
