 OVERVIEW
(from Goodreads)
In Lorie Ann Grover’s new YA novel, Tiadone has been forced to live her entire life as a female accepted as male in her community in order to survive as a firstborn child. But when she needs to pass the rites of manhood, she finds the Creator may have use for her feminine traits after all.

 REVIEW
WHERE DOES A FIRSTBORN GIRL
FIT IN A WORLD
DOMINATED BY MEN?
Born female, but living as a male to avoid genercide.  Tiadone struggles as to why she must do this just for society's rulers, the invaders who took over her people the R-Tan.
A first born female is worthless according to society, so many newborn females are brought up as males. How will Tiadone fit into the world, since men view women as nothing and it is a world of men.  Women are degraded.
I find it so amazed that this kind of thing goes on even though this book is fiction.
When Tiadone was born her parents had two choices, Leave her to die in the forest or take her and raise her as a male.  I feel the parent's didn't have much of a choice.  Life or death?
When her male initiation came, some of her feminine traits came to the surface.  Just natural.  Some things you can't disguise.  She noticed feelings for her male best friend. Besides that, the bird that has been put with her is considered evil.
Bravo for Tiadone, she decides she  may be able to stand up for herself in front of the rulers and bring out her real purpose in life.
I felt like there was  a message that anyone who didn't believe as the rulers did  were evil, even to the point of ridding themselves of a firstborn female.  You either believed as they did or you were nothing, evil, never to be considered as worthy.
I believe the birds gave a nice touch to the story.  It was like they had personalities.  I just didn't find this book to be all that interesting.  It just didn't keep my attention.  To be honest, I almost didn't finish it.

I would give this book 3 RAPIONS.

I was given a complimentary copy of THE FIRST BORN by Lorie Ann Grover from
