MY REVIEW
This is a tale of a princess who became a villain. Unfortunately, not every fairy tale has a happy ending. The princess was living in a Kingdom that held an evil, dark secret. Wonderland Palace was a dark place. Soon to be the Queen of Hearts, the princess, Dinah , although strong with a big heart lives a boring life of teas, tarts and a father who delights in humiliating her. The King of Hearts wasn't an endearing father, to say the least.He was mentally and physically mean to Dinah. It makes her sad to see how her father is ruling Wonderland. She had one friend to brighten her days. The future Knave of Hearts, who was her childhood friend. That's sad to think that a childhood friend, Wardley was the only bright thing in Dinah's life. But, he was her love.Her father didn't love her . Dinah not only had the responsibility of Wonderland but she took care of thee servants and her mad brother, Charles, the mad hatter. He was born mad. I found I just adored Charles. He was creative and a harmless lost soul.
Then comes the day when her life may change drastically. Could this enchanting stranger that has arrived change Dinah's life forever? Strange activity is an alert that something evil walks in the halls of Wonderland. The mysteries need to be solved and it is up to Dinah. She is facing a cunning and faceless enemy.
I found it interesting that the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit were included in the tale. This was definitely an evil tale based on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
The author wrote an interesting, but just a little creepy tale of A Queen to be, and the evils that she will have to tend to. This isn't your Alice in Wonderland, well perhaps a dark version.
The author had me sitting on the edge of my seat, turning the pages to not miss a single thing. Ms. Oakes was very descriptive of the surroundings and especially of the characters. I simply loved the book. The author gives you a mix of evil, mystery, a strong woman with flaws, and tucked in there is romance. Since this is the first volume of QUEEN OF HEARTS, maybe we'll find out in Vol. Two more about how the Queen to be becomes evil. I definitely will not miss it. Just thought I'd make it clear, her name is Dinah not Alice.
I would recommend this book to anyone. It is a great read with a different twist on a well known fairy tale. Wonderful, simply wonderful. You won't be disappointed.
