OVERVIEW (from Goodreads)
Atticus Wynn and Rosemary Sanchez, newly engaged private investigators, have seen the dark and violent side of life, but nothing has prepared them for an explosive murder investigation that threatens to tear their relationship apart. They struggle to solve a case that as a best result could leave them in prison or dead. Atticus's manipulative ex-girlfriend bursts back into their lives wielding a secret about Rosemary's family. She exploits the fact to force the couple into investigating the execution-style slaying of her lover. The case thrusts Atticus and Rosemary headlong into the world of human trafficking and drug smuggling, while rendering them pawns in Tijuana Cartel captain Armando Villanueva's bloody bid to take over the Cartel. The Black Song Inside is a vivid crime thriller rife with murder and madness, melded with gallows humor and the heroism of two flawed and compelling protagonists. If they can save themselves, they may learn the nature of redemption and the ability to forgive.

REVIEW
Warning: If "street lingo" bothers you then I would advise you not to read this book.  It gets kind of rough in places.  Street gangs,  Drug trafficking, child abductions and a PI firm run by  a Latina woman and an American Black, who are engaged..  Another thing that may keep you from wanting to read the book is there are racial slurs.  We all know this still takes place although sometimes we close our eyes to it.
"The Priest" of which he is far from has started his own religion.  Murder and mayhem of which he is recruiting acolytes.  He forms a dark alliance with the Mexican drug lord.

The story is full of action and is quite a thriller. It is fast paced. We have our PI's ; hero, Atticus Wynn and fiancee heroine, Rosemary Sanchez who are caught up in the border drug war which is extremely violent. Rosemary has a secret and Atticus's ex is blackmailing him.  Rosemary is the very essence of a heroine.  She served in Iraq and lost her right leg.  She battles every day with PTSD.  Do  we ever see any self pity?  NO!  Atticus has a humorous part of himself that is a definite change. This book is harsh and shows the very dark side of the drug wars. There are many characters that hold the plot in place.  The book is reality with no fluff added.  There is no fluff in the drug wars that happen every day all around us.  It is hard core reality.  Violence is an everyday occurrence in this world of ours.  Perhaps we don't see it or perhaps we don't want to see it.  Whatever be your point of view, it is real and it spreads like wildfire. I certainly hope this writer continues with more books.  This was a hard book to read with the violence and the darkness it presented.  We can't close our eyes for ever to the horrible things in life.  They exist and one day they may be knocking at your door.  The author wrote  of reality even though it is a fiction book.  I hope people buy this book and read it.  We need a shake up and reality will do just that.

I would give this book 5  LINKS.
