I guess this story was a little educational for me.  I'm not a real history buff but I had no idea that Ireland was considered a neutral country.  The author gives us information on what life in Ireland was like during the war.  I enjoyed the way the author described the village people.  Seemed to be a really happy place considering the time.  The characters are well developed. Each had their own definite and steady qualities.  There was a lot of loyalty to their country which I admired. We don't see much of that these days.   I liked the two main characters, Nan, an Irish midwife, and Dutch, a Canadian pilot find themselves together when Dutch crashes his plane.Anyone finding a foreign soldier must report them to the authorities but she was willing to take a chance on helping this wounded "flyboy" and they slowly developed not only a deep friendship but a romance. They just seemed to mesh from the start.  Like they were meant to be.But this wounded "flyboy" isn't Nan's only secret. She has been holding guilt over her husband's death, but why?  The author gives a little romance, some humor and the book is very interesting with a historical background. The author gives strong, well developed characters but mainly the women. They were very strong, independent and didn't need a man to take care of them.
The setting was unique, especially since Ireland was caught between two enemies, stayed neutral.   I don't believe I've read any books where Ireland was the center point.  Very interesting.
So if you like history, romance, humor and strong characters, then try this book and you may find yourself falling in love too.

I received a copy of this book from the author and Litfuse Publicity and voluntarily decided to review it.

I would give this book 4 STARS.
