When a food critic dies after sampling a pie from Rachael’s Bakery, she is quickly labeled the prime suspect. With carefree best friend, Pippa, Rachael sets out on a mission to save her bakery, but it could ultimately cost her and her best friend everything.

THE AUTHOR

Stacey Alabaster

I have always loved a good mystery. From my early years watching Murder She Wrote to more recent shows like Monk, Psych, and my absolute favorite BBC show ever, Sherlock, I have studied what it takes to make an entertaining mystery. I am truly blessed to be able to write and share my own mysteries with you. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I loved writing them :)

MY THOUGHTS

Rachael's Boutique Cake is a little bakery where Rachael Robinson makes goodies with all natural products.   Her competition is Bakermatic, but they only sell factory made goods.
The Belldale Street Fair is a place for people to sell their goods. Both Rachael and Bakermatic have booths there but Rachael's sales are suffering.   Rachael can't match the free samples that Bakermatic is giving away.  SO, Rachael thinks dropping her prices will help.   She gets a few customers but one in particular happens to be a food critic and complains about Rachael's prices.  The food critic, Colleen Batters buys a piece of pie but she doesn't get to taste the pie, she ends up DEAD and it wasn't the pie that killed her.
When the investigation discovers the pie was poisoned, Rachel is a suspect.  Rachael has her own ideas about what happened.  Another investigation starts with Rachael's friend, Pippa.  They are trying to prove what really happened. How the pie got poisoned.   For some reason Rachael keeps getting into more trouble.   She can't let go thought. She has to find out the real cause of the poisoning. Rachael's business is suffering greatly during this ordeal. Will Rachael be proven innocent or guilty? Will she lose her business.?   The author taunts you into thinking you've got the mystery solved until you turn the next page and you discover you're wrong again.  Clues keep showing up that lead you in a different direction.   Nothing is obvious in this little cozy mystery. You may think so, but it isn't.  The author adds a special little touch of romance.  That's the sugar in the pie.  If you like cozy mysteries this is a good one that lets the reader stay in suspense rather than give the obvious away.  A quick, entertaining and fun read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and Fairfield Cozy Mysteries and voluntarily decided to review it.

I would give this book 5 STARS.
