Glenister McCreedie was never a lucky man. Imprisoned for a crime he never committed, deserted by the woman he loved and betrayed by his own family.

His bad luck seems to be running out when he is released early from prison and finds a job on the railroads. But it doesn't last for long.

First he gets into a fight with a man who turns up dead and whilst still on the run, his train is held up by his own brother's gang. Then he somehow manages to offend the railroad boss' daughter, the beautiful Elizabeth.

With the fates out to get him, Glen has to use all his wits and strength to take control of his own destiny...

Steve Blondel is better known throughout the West as El Cougar - the fighting cowboy. An unbeatable force, he's winning competitions nationwide and earning a reputation for his skills in the ring.

As the first fighting cowboy to come out of the West, Blondel is quickly becoming the one to beat. Huge bets are placed on his success and people travel far and wide to watch him in action.. But his career is suddenly interrupted when he learns of the disappearance of his brother, who has mysteriously vanished whilst enroute to a fight.

However, it's not long before Blondel realizes that his brother has been murdered by a gang of vicious train robbers, and his body tossed into the nearby canyon.

Blondel vows vengeance, and locates the prime suspects of the attack - the infamous Morton family - who will stop at nothing to get what they want.

Trouble always seems to find Careless O'Connor. But when he comes across a wrecked wagon off a lonely Texan trail, dangerously close to the volatile Mexican border, he has little premonition that this chance encounter will change his life forever.

Lying amongst the debris of shattered wagon wheels and dead horses is the woman who will turn Careless' world upside down. Little did he know the plight of Grace Whitfield, with her blue eyes, blonde curls and fierce desire to avenge her ruthless imprisonment of her brother, was going to lead Careless on many an adventure - both in the harsh desert and in his heart.

Battling against terrifying odds, Careless and his crew - the beautiful Grace, brave young Yippee Clay, honest Burt and dastardly Big Mouth - struggle on in their quest for justice.

I'm a big fan of Westerns.  The author gives the reader three stories compiled in one book.   I've read a couple of Mr. Landsborough books before and really enjoyed them.   The author does an amazing job of describing the scenery and the actions between the characters.  The plot moves by at a steady pace and there are places that are quite amusing, bringing a smile to your face.  In this book you get the good ole' western stories of cowboys and their daily lives.   There is no lack of adventure, great descriptions of characters and scenery, true cowboys and lovely women in this collection of western stories..   SO if you love westerns, try out this Omnibus of the wild west.

In QUICK ON THE DRAW the author keeps the reader's attention on each and every page as the adventure goes forward.   Luck never seemed to be on the side of Glenister McCreedie.  He has spent time in prison for a crime that he hadn't done, the woman he loved left him and his own family turned their backs on him.   Alone he is.  When released from prison a bit early he turns to the railroad for a job but that is short lived.  Bad luck sits on his shoulder.  He fights with a man who then turns up dead, so on the run he goes.  What happens next?   The train he's on is held up by a gang, a gang led by Glen's own brother.   On top of that he seems to offend the railroad boss' daughter.  He's striking out big time.  Can Glen get all of this under control or will he end up back in prison or even worse, dead?

Next is THE FIGHTING COWBOY which is a fast paced read.   The author really got the language, the way the cowboys spoke, down to a "T".  It was like you were standing in front of the Mercantile and eavesdropping on their conversations.  The setting is one of the toughest, hardest places in America during those times, San Francisco.   When Clint Blondel, known as Ringo Shearer to all outlaws, steps off the train, he knew what he had to do.  He came to bring the gangs that robbed trains to face the law. This ole' west adventure gives you much to keep you glued to the pages.  Cowboys are a different kind of species. They talk, act, walk, dress and deal with justice in a totally different way.  The author gives you all of that and more.

The we have BATTLE AT BROKEN KNEE with the main character being, Careless O'Connor.   What a name?  Is he really careless?  He is a Texas Ranger who finds a lovely woman in the middle of dead horses and broken wagons.  She has lost her brother and wants revenge.  She partners with Careless.   Will they solve the robbing and destruction of the stage coaches that are traveling from Broken Knee to Neuces Bend?  Or will they find themselves with only more trouble?  The author keeps you on the edge of your chair as you turn the pages.  Of course, a little romance does help to keep those pages turning.  Once again, I loved the way the characters talked, the unique names and the scenery descriptions.  The author gives you the strong characters that it took to stay alive in the ole' west.  They plodded on in order to survive.  They did what they had to in order to survive.   Back then, men were men, they fought for what they believed in and they fought to stay alive.  They didn't back down.  As it was for the ladies, they were ladies but they still had that strength that kept them and their men alive.  Loved this story.  Will Careless and Grace find the romance to be together? Will Careless settle down or is it in his nature?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Pioneering Press and the author and voluntarily decided to review it.

I would give this book 5 STARS.
