 REVIEW
Belfa returns to her Appalachia hometown, where we meet another character, Lindy, a coal miner's daughter who has some secrets that might explode and cause more violence in this small town.
The author wrote a story that was extremely suspenseful.   She described the setting of Acker's Gap, a small town though having been struck with poverty, is in the West Virginia mountains, beautiful mountains. A small, lovely town full of brutality. The problem with the mountains was that no one was enjoying them.
A killer is on the loose and is stalking the small town and its down on their luck townspeople. The town's County prosecutor Belfa and her friend, Sheriff Nick are working to find out who this killer is. If that isn't enough, Belfa's sister is coming home from prison.  The author gives you a lot of characters, described quite well, for the reader to get their teeth into and go along with them as they try to put the killer to justice. The beautiful but brutal little town has a killer who walks side by side with the citizens, and demand their due.  DEATH!  The author did a wonderful job of combining the beautiful mountains that were filled with danger.  It wasn't a perfect place, lovely yes, but not perfect.  Far from it when a killer comes and goes as he pleases.

I was given a complimentary copy of SUMMER OF THE DEAD from the author, Julia Keller and Night Owl Reviews for my view of the book.  No other compensation took place.

I would give this book 4 STARS.
