OVERVIEW (from Amazon)
The Map and the Perfection of Distance tells of the adventure of a widow who at age fifty-one travels solo, going abroad for the first time in her life. Compelled by a nightmare she cashes in nearly all of her assets to buy an Air India ticket for an around the world trip sojourning in Tokyo, Kyoto, Hong Kong, Bangkok, India and beyond. During three weeks in Kashmir on a trek in the Himalayas she is the object of treachery and risk to her life. In Bombay she finds a man she loved since college who haunted her dreams for twenty-two years because of a lie and need for confession. The dangers amid social and religious turmoil are not unlike those of today's world. Throughout her trip she meets remarkable women and seductive men: finds sanity in England, soul with Van Gogh in Amsterdam, and a major surprise on her return home. Nan Hunt, educator and author of essays, poetry, fiction, and memoir is the recipient of various writing awards/grants with over 100 of her works published in the U. S. and abroad. MY VIEW
Setting: classroom, little girl watching her teacher open a political map. To the little girl this was the start of wanting to see and travel the world.  As the girl grows into a woman, she becomes a wife, mother, poet, teacher and social worker.  But she has done no traveling and she is now 51.  She has accomplished many things but she has yet to travel the world.  The one thing she remembered from childhood as being her dream. Then as  a college instructor, with contacts and  knowing of important people in other countries she cashed in her assets and with nothing her back, started traveling.  Her daughters were grown, she was a widow with a lover whose relationship was about over.  She was free to go and that she did.  She went many places and did many things.  A journey through the Himalayas, stayed on a houseboat in Kashmir and so much more.   This journey she had embarked upon was her attempt to find her lost lover.  She writes with lovely descriptions.  I found her trek into the Himalayans most exciting for me.  She described it and I felt like I was on this journey with her. The author writes about finding out what being an adult is all about and the different segments of being that adult. Ms. Hunt is seeking something and that is for the reader to discover.

Read the book,  interesting travels of a 51 year old woman who has something she is seeking.  While she is on this search she travels through many countries and allows the reader to travel with her.

I was given a complimentary copy of THE MAP AND THE PERFECTION OF DISTANCE from Nan Hunt and OutSkirtsPress for my view of the book.    No other compensation took place.

I would give this book 3 STARS.
