A depth and conflict of personalities that you will soon come to relish or detest.
(back cover)
History repeats itself.  Take a ride back memory lane to the 1970's. Deceit, revenge, militaristic police, affected legal system and gay tragedy.  The end of the Hoover era, amidst the death throes of the Nixon debacle.  The author has captured an era, depicting a battle for the soul of the Republic, at the local level.

Young, handsome, charming Collier Winthrop is enticed by a crusty of Political Boss, AL Caso, to seek Public Office.  Collie soon faces an unscrupulous adversary practiced in deceit; manipulated state investigative agencies and a contaminated police department.  Events unfold that uncover a sordid police mentality, unveil the civil rights of the Flower Children violate, ruin reputations and threaten the very lives of Collie's confederates.

How can Collie unravel plots unseen and unimaginable, to survive even the earliest months of his political enterprise.  The work portrays the depth and conflict of personalities.  Politics is a business of expediency.  Otherwise decent people justify immoral behavior in defence of careers.
(Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley'd & thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death
Rode the six hundred!
(The Charge of the Light Brigade
Alfred Lord Tennyson)

"In politics, stupidity is not a handicap"
(Napoleon Bonaparte)
Mr. Repp is no stranger to politics, with nearly 50 years of Political/Government Operations.  Mr. Repp has taken that experience and is now sharing with his readers. He was first elected to chair a political party at the age of 24 and serve for 20 years.  He was the County Supervisor of Elections, Upstate NY Town Manager, Long Island, NY Village Manager of Fire Island and City Economic Development Manager in Florida.  Mr. Repp holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration and has taught school on the middle school level.

"Out, out, brief candle!
life's but a walking shadow,
A poor player that struts
and frets his hour upon
the stage and then is heard no more;
it is a talk told by an idiot,
full of sound and fury,
signifying nothing."
(Macbeth Act V, Scene V
William Shakespeare)
"You wouldn't worry so much  about
what other's think of you, if you
realized how seldom they do."
(Eleanor Roosevelt)
Mr.  Repp is a wonderful writer writing about something he is quite in tune with, local politics. He has had so much experience behind him that when he started writing about local politics, he knew his stuff.  Our main character is Collier who is 27, educated, not married and the son of the Mill owner.  He has been raised in a very well off environment.  A very powerful boss gets him to run for Mayor against incumbent Mayor.  So many characters that added to the series of events.  Very interesting and rather educational in a way. I felt like parts were things that actually happened. I don't know, I just felt it.  So much in this book happens in everyday local politics.  Maybe I should say in the high realms of politics also.
Politics right now in our society rather local or on the federal level is in big turmoil. The Mayor has been subjected to all kinds of embarrassing things and obstruction of everything he tries to do to make the town better.   Council members have been living high on the hog and the Mayor has been trying to stop this. The mayor is elected by the people, not councilmen, not by a party either.  Since the Mayor has little power anymore because the Council has taken it away and put a Deputy in his place.  Oh, he is still the Mayor by name only.  Election is arriving soon with 33 candidates running including the present Mayor.  Have you heard of him?  Rob Ford, in the news and TV in both U.S. and Canada.I thought the book was well written, great descriptions and opening the locked door to the evilness in politics.
I didn't know for sure if this was fiction or Non.  I'm guessing it is more non than Fiction.  I'm sure names and happenings have been changed to protect the ones who call themselves POLITICIANS.  I don't believe every politician is dirty, but a vast majority are.
I would highly recommend that you get a copy of POWER PLAY and  read about the corruption of politics that you may not have really taken the time to consider.  Mull it over and make your own conclusion.  It's in the eyes of the beholder.
I thought the cover on the book was a very good lead in to the book.  Wonderful idea.
I also thought the quotes at the end of some of the chapters (which I have put in this review)  were a wonderful add to the story.  This book was a perfect read.  Don't quit writing.

I was given a complimentary copy of POWER PLAY from the author F. Ethan Repp for my view of the book.  No other compensation took place.

I would give this book a solid 5 STARS.

"Always do right. This will gratify
some and astonish the rest"
(Mark Twain)

(Winston Churchill)
