OVERVIEW:
(from Goodreads)
WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA - SEPTEMBER 1787 ~ To escape a threatening stepfather and an unwanted marriage, Tamsen Littlejohn enlists the aid of Jesse Bird, a frontiersman she barely knows, to spirit her away from Migrating, North Carolina, west beyond the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Trouble pursues, as the two men intent on seeing her recovered prove relentless in their hunt. Trouble awaits in the form of a divided frontier community. Across the mountains the State of Franklin has been declared, yet many settlers remain loyal to North Carolina. Chaos reigns, thwarting Tamsen and Jesse’s hastily cobbled plan to keep her safe.

With her pursuers ever nearing, the region in turmoil, neighbors grown suspicious of her presence, Tamsen’s safety is soon put in greater jeopardy. Gaining the freedom she longs for will mean running yet again, to the most unlikely refuge imaginable—the Cherokees, a people balanced on the knife edge of war.

But the biggest complication may prove to be Tamsen’s growing bond with her knight in greasy buckskins, Jesse Bird. Falling in love was never part of the plan.

REVIEW
Tamsen Littlejohn is a brave women, strong and defiant.  She escaped the harsh and cruel step-father and the life he has forced her  to live.  A hunk of a man, Jesse Bird, a frontiersman guides her to the Settlement of Watauga. Tamsen is tested to the core with hardships as they cross the rugged mountains. Tamsen has never lived a life like this and she struggles to learn the new ways of a life she knew nothing abut.  She had been longing for something for a long time.  Was this frontier wilderness it?  Was Jesse Bird going to be more than just her guide?  Love has a way of joining two people in the oddest of circumstances.
-JESSE and TAMSEN-
When Jesse first sees Tamsen, he wondered if she was the woman that God wanted him to love.
Tamsen had a fear of men in general. Why wouldn't she with the father she had and the intended husband, Bran Kincaid, her father had set up for her?  Tamsen wonders if it is worth the risk to fall in love with Jesse. Both Tamsen and Jesse discover secrets from their past..........Will that change the path for Jesse and Tamsen? Tamsen discovers much in her adventures with Jesse.  She meets women from different walks of life.  Each and everyone made Tamsen stronger and more determined.  The author wrote a beautiful, with wonderful descriptions of settings and characters.  She had me rooting for Tamsen and Jesse more and more as the book went on.  I could barely stop reading.  It was like I was glued to the book and those pages didn't turn fast enough. This book will go on my shelf as a  keeper. The author gives the reader all, history, adventure, mystery, faith, romance, struggles and I could go on.  There's not much left to say except, I would recommend this book to everyone who loves all of these elements in a book, read and go on the journey of Tamsen Littlejohn.

I would give this book 5 ARROWS.

I was given a complimentary copy of THE PURSUIT OF TAMSEN LITTLEJOHN by the author, Lori Benton for my honest opinion.  No other compensation took place.

 AUTHOR
Lori BentonLori Benton was born and raised east of the Appalachian Mountains, surrounded by early American and family history going back to the 1600s. Her novels transport readers to the 18th century, where she brings to life the Colonial and early Federal periods of American history, creating a melting pot of characters drawn from both sides of a turbulent and shifting frontier, brought together in the bonds of God's transforming grace.

When she isn’t writing, reading, or researching 18th century history, Lori enjoys exploring the mountains with her husband – often scouring the brush for huckleberries, which overflow the freezer and find their way into her signature huckleberry lemon pound cake.

On March 26, 2012, Lori signed a two-book contract with WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group. Lori's debut historical, Burning Sky, set in upstate New York, 1784, will be published in August of 2013.

Lori is represented by Wendy Lawton, of Books & Such Literary Agency.
