SETTING: Sinclair, Kansas, 1900
Caroline Lang had a hard childhood but her faith and her loving heart helped her in her job as investigator for the Labor Commission.  She has such compassion for children's rights.  She wants children freed from responsibilities that belonged on adult shoulders.  She felt children should be in school, learning instead of working in factories.
The famous Dinsmore Chocolate Factory is located in Sinclair, Kansas.  When a mysterious accident happens, Caroline goes undercover and poses as a factory worker. She is not only investigating the accident but the treatment of child workers. Little did she know that the heir to the candy dynasty, Oliver Dinsmore is conducting his own investigation.  He also poses as a worker known as  "Ollie Moore".
The two become fast friends and begin to investigate together. An  sense of  need brings three children to Caroline. What is going to happen to Caroline and Ollie?  Will their friendship survive and possibly develop into something more?  What is going to happen to the children?
The author wrote  a story that will tug at your heart strings. The story is written so that you become a part of Caroline's life.   You start rooting for her and her campaign for children's labor rights. She has written the characters to be so human.   They are characters you can relate to. I especially felt for the three children.  No mother, father just died and Letta, the oldest was trying to take care of her two brothers.  Quite a load for a young girl. I felt the moment I finished the first page that this was going to be a keeper, and the author didn't disappoint.  The pages turned as fast as I could make them.
The author gave us all, friendship, faith, romance, the rights of children and so much more.  The only thing I had a problem with was I'm done with the book.  I wonder if there will be a sequel.

I would recommend this book to everyone who likes good clean reading that let's you become part of the character's lives because they have qualities of being human.  Don't miss out on Ms. Sawyer's book, ECHOES OF MERCY.
