Naked Paddock

First Book in a series
M.K. Ducote

Published May 31st 2013 by Warchest Publishing an Imprint of Telemachus Press

(from Goodreads)

Inspired by real events and the first novel of a trilogy series, Naked Paddock transports its readers on a wild journey through the adrenaline-fueled world of professional motorsports—a world of money, sex, ego and ruthless competition. Set on the stage of historic racetracks throughout the world, Naked Paddock introduces a lifelike cast of colorful characters, as quirky and flawed as they are entertaining: talented young drivers, pushy agents, wealthy sponsors, fickle team owners, trophy wives, flag-girls and ambitious models.

At its heart, Naked Paddock can be pared down to one man. Attractive, daring and privileged, Coleton Loren is a professional race car driver unaccustomed to setbacks who finds himself injured in the off-season. Charmed by his beautiful, yet bookish doctor, Camilla, he sweeps her into his world—a world of gossip and glamour that she never knew or dreamed of—as he fights to reclaim the top step of the podium.

M.K. Ducote has toured the world’s premier racing circuits for years with her husband, a professional race car driver with over 14 career podiums. With the intimate knowledge of a real racing insider, M.K. Ducote delivers a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse of international motorsports and the people and passions that drive it.

My husband and I love racing. I couldn't get interested in this book.  I wanted to stop reading it but I kept thinking it was going to turn around. The book wasn't edited very well.  There were words missing and in places using the wrong words. It seemed to me that the book would go fast and then just slow down.  I found that to be distracting. I felt that the author just started putting words on the paper and not really getting some of the facts straight or know where she wanted to head with this story. I'm rather at a loss for words.  It started off with romance with a race car driver and then went to, well, I'm not sure.  I just couldnt' keep track of the story.  It was all over the place.I couldn't come to a bond with the characters. No depth.  It was like they were robots walking around instead of people who you could relate to. I thought that the book was written because she was around the ace crowd with her husband being a driver.  It just didn't seem like she had all her facts covered.  Some were exactly right and others were way off. Sports of any kind is money, prestige, long days and the stress of the race.  Winning equals money.   That can be kind of boring, so pretty it up.  I think with a lot of editing, getting the facts straight and putting some qualities to the characters.  I thought I would really Ike this book since we have always been a race fan family, but I was disappointed.  The racers didn't seem to have any love for the race.  Racers of all kinds of racing have passion for the sport.  These characters didn't seem to possess that.  It also seemed that the author repeated things time and time again, especially in the crashes that took place. They were all horrific.  Today with all the safety changes that have and are being made the crashes arent' all horrific.  True, some are but with all the safety features that are in place, the drivers come out unscathed from many a crash.  I'm sorry but this book just didn''t interest me at all.  It all felt wrong.  That's just my opinion.  Pick up the book and read it, even if you have no race knowledge, and decide for yourself.

I would give this book 2 Stars

I was given a complimentary copy of this book NAKED PADDOCK by M.K. Ducote for my honest opinion.

M.K. Ducote grew up in the small town of Davie, Florida. Eager to see more of the world, M.K. studied abroad in Melbourne, Tokyo and Paris as an undergraduate and graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in business finance, B.A. in classics and minor in art history. The eternal scholar, M.K. went on to law school and studied international law and human rights in Cape Town and Lima, graduating with a J.D. from the University of Florida and an LL.M. from the University of Miami.

Having seen the world, M.K. settled down to practice law and met her husband, Chapman Ducote, a professional race car driver and entrepreneur with over 14 career podiums under his belt. Tossed into the exciting and scandalous world of motorsports, M.K. was enthralled by the behind-the-scenes drama. M.K. quickly turned to her life-long passion and set pen to paper, plucking from real life the colorful settings and scenes of her fiction series, Naked Paddock.

Each year, M.K. Ducote embraces her love for travel and writing, accompanying her husband to racing circuits all over the world and gathering inspiration for her high-octane racing novels. When not on the road, M.K. calls home to Miami Beach, Florida.
