WELCOME TO THE BRIER PATCH
by Darrell McMann
OVERVIEW: (FROM AMAZON)
Darrell McMann didn't know what to expect when he became a white police
officer in the predominantly black areas of Mobile, Alabama. His success
came largely from training, luck, improvisation, an indefatigable
attitude, and the constant support of his fellow officers. Welcome to
the Brier Patch is his true story, a gripping, no-holds-barred journey
into the everyday life of a police officer in one of the most racially
polarized regions of the country. Exciting, thought-provoking, and with
an unflappable sense of humor, McMann guides us into a world that is at
once recognizable and completely foreign.
WELCOME TO THE BRIER PATCH by Darrell McMann is a true story of the author's life as a white officer in the mostly black town of Mobile, Alabama. He goes through the police academy and white cop starts working the streets. He was ribbed alot about being the only white cop, but he dealt well with it. He never showed any racism.
The real life situations that Mr. McMann went through was quite uplifting.. He never lost his cool no matter what the situation was. He was strictly a professional. He refers to the neighborhood as "brier patch" full of thorns and a dangerous path to take. He wants everyone treated the same regardless of color. You can almost place yourself on the streets patrolled by Darrell McMann. This is a good book for anyone to read. While he was an officer, he found a lovely lady to spend time with. He and Kim soon get married and begin their life together. Several years into their marriage a beautiful baby girl was born. They named her Elizabeth. The author puts in a little of everything in his book. Action, crime, chases, love, murder. The book is entertaining and informative. Take a moment and grab the book and follow Officer Darrell McMann as he did his job as a cop in Mobile, Alabama.
I would give this book a solid 4 1/2 Stars
